Alia Wilmot

Alia Wilmot is a London based textile artist whose global upbringing across five continents informs her rich visual language. Her practice centers around horsehair weaving, a deeply personal craft that merges her lifelong connection with horses and her passion for textiles. Through her collection Equus by Alia Memories Weaved, she explores themes of nature, memory, and resilience, creating works that balance tradition and modernity.

Equus x Alia is a collection of handwoven horsehair textiles that honor the profound, often unspoken bond between humans and horses. Rooted in personal memory and guided by a reverence for nature, each piece captures the quiet strength, grace, and legacy of the equine form. Using traditional floor and Dobby looms, I weave natural horsehair with alpaca, cotton, and silk, blending raw textures with refined craftsmanship.

Inspired by classical tapestries, heirlooms, and modern equestrian aesthetics, these works are both personal and universal—tactile portraits of loyalty, freedom, and memory. Found objects like driftwood and antique fittings are often integrated into the weavings, grounding each piece in a sense of place and time.

The collection is both sculptural and intimate, standing at the intersection of fine art, textile tradition, and storytelling. As a lifelong horse rider and textile artist, Equus x Alia is my tribute to the animals that shaped my childhood and to the slow, meditative process of weaving as a form of remembrance.
