Alia Wilmot

Alia Wilmot is a London based textile artist whose global upbringing across five continents informs her rich visual language. Her practice centers around horsehair weaving, a deeply personal craft that merges her lifelong connection with horses and her passion for textiles. Through her collection Equus by Alia Memories Weaved, she explores themes of nature, memory, and resilience, creating works that balance tradition and modernity.

My creative journey is a woven tapestry shaped by a life lived across five continents. Each place has added texture to how I see and make, but two threads have remained constant: my love for horses and for textiles. Weaving with horsehair feels like a conversation with these magnificent creatures, raw, resilient and timeless.

My collection Equus by Alia Memories Weaved explores the relationship between nature, strength and grace. I use Dobby and floor loom techniques to weave horsehair, cotton, alpaca, linen and sisal into tactile works that celebrate both classical craftsmanship and contemporary design. Each piece is a tribute to the spirit of the horse, enhanced by narrative props like driftwood and antique stirrups.

I see art as a form of remembrance, a way to honor the bonds between humans and nature. My work invites viewers to pause and reimagine the familiar, to see strength in softness and beauty in simplicity. Every thread tells a story of freedom, adventure and enduring connection.
