Guo Cheng is a multidisciplinary artist and interior designer currently studying for a Masters in Interior Design at the Royal College of Art in London. She holds a BA in Exhibition Design from the Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts and her work incorporates space transformation, architecture, film, costume props and installation art.
The work is inspired by the novels of Taiwanese female writer Sanmao, who vividly depicts the impact of the modernization process on the natural environment and human lifestyle with the image of "plastic children". She pointed out that with the advent of the "plastic" era, children have gradually become separated from nature, and the "concrete forest" in the city has further isolated people from nature, causing environmental damage and ecological imbalance. In response to this phenomenon, I proposed an innovative sustainable design concept that aims to break the boundaries between nature and the city, perfectly integrate architecture and plants, and redefine green design.
My design plan focuses on community public facilities and emphasizes cutting-edge sustainable technologies and concepts. By integrating innovative elements such as vertical greening, roof gardens, and rainwater collection systems into architectural design, it not only creates beautiful and practical spaces, but also effectively reduces the negative impact on the environment. This new type of green building not only provides a healthier living environment, but also creates an opportunity for residents in the city to get close to nature, allowing people and nature to coexist harmoniously in the city.
During the design process, I constantly challenge and break through the boundaries of traditional sustainable design, and strive to achieve true ecological balance. I believe that by integrating natural elements into urban life, the city of the future will no longer be a hotbed of "plastic children", but an ecosystem full of vitality and vigor, allowing everyone to enjoy the benefits of nature.
This design is not only an architectural concept, but also an advocacy of a lifestyle. I hope that through this green design, I can arouse people's attention to environmental protection, let more people participate in the ranks of sustainable development, and jointly create a better and more harmonious future.
