‘Sonder’, the idea that everyone lives a life just as vivid as one’s own, touches on looking to others for approval and the social value of fitting in (nobody is thinking about you, they’re thinking about themselves). Through sonder we are freed from what others think of us, providing a sense of comfort/safety - ultimately leading to a sense of belonging, as we find a home in the comfort sonder provides.
Rosary beads are used to pray for a better future. They transcend time and religion - the design is one of the oldest pieces of jewellery, providing a connection to generations of heritage and culture. It serves as an identity, a mark of the religious, a vessel to speak to God.
Before I designed the Rosary I was in a period of tremendous self doubt and insecurity over my art. In one last attempt to prove myself wrong, my goal was to create something undeniable - something I could point to as proof of my artistic merit during times where I would lack confidence in myself.
What started out as a last ditch effort to save my career and myself, slowly became the work I’m most proud of and a life experience I will forever point to when I start to lose myself. I showed myself that through hard work and fearlessness I can truly achieve anything.
