Seongmin Kim
Seongmin Kim is a London-based contemporary jewellery artist exploring the subtle emotions of human connections. A Central Saint Martins graduate with a BA (Hons) in Jewellery Design, her background and deep interest in fine arts shape her distinct artistic identity across various visual art forms. Working with natural materials like pearl and mother-of-pearl, she crafts symbolic, timeless pieces that resonate deeply with her audience. Beyond traditional jewellery, her practice extends to objects and installations, seamlessly blending craftsmanship with emotional depth.
Seong's work has been exhibited at Goldsmiths' Centre, in the Cluster Jewellery Exhibition(2024), Copeland Gallery and Alsolike Gallery(2025). Continuously refining her technical expertise, she aims to create exhibitions that foster meaningful dialogue and forge stronger connections. Through immersive and interactive storytelling, she redefines contemporary jewellery as a narrative-driven art form that reflects and engages with everyday life.
Seongmin Kim’s artistic practice combines emotion, narrative, and craftsmanship, redefining contemporary jewellery as a form of storytelling. Her Motherly Love collection, central to her artistic identity, explores "parasite harmony" through the mother-child relationship. By using pearls and mother-of-pearl, she symbolizes resilience, protection, and growth, representing the coexistence of care and development.
Drawing from personal experiences while resonating universally, Seong’s work reflects the transition from dependence to independence through fluid forms. Her jewellery creates a tactile and emotional connection, blending aesthetic beauty with deep symbolism. Focused on hand-carving, particularly with pearls and soft wax, Seong embraces a slow, meticulous process, allowing natural imperfections and textures to guide her designs. These flaws become part of the creative journey, refined until each piece reaches its final form. By emphasizing wearability, Seong transforms her art into accessible, everyday expressions that seamlessly integrate creativity with daily life.
For London Craft Week 2025, Seong will showcase her narrative-driven jewellery in a wearable form. Blending craftsmanship with immersive storytelling, she challenges traditional notions of adornment, transforming jewellery into personal symbols of love and protection. Her work invites viewers to engage with jewellery beyond its visual appeal, fostering deeper connections through meaningful, shared experiences.
