YouJin Seo

YouJin Seo is a multidisciplinary jewellery and object maker based in Seoul and London. Her work merges traditional craftsmanship with experimental and conceptual approaches, exploring the intersections of jewellery, objects, and installations. She holds a Master’s degree in Jewellery and Metal from the Royal College of Art, where she developed a distinctive practice centered on the dualities of human experience and emotion - connection and isolation, presence and absence, order and chaos - exploring how these themes shape our emotional landscapes.

The Empty Rings series explores the themes of fullness and emptiness. As we go through cycles of filling and emptying, layers accumulate within us. This series focuses on the spaces of emptiness and absence, as well as the weight of memories that have been left behind. By depicting the voids within, it reflects the emotional and psychological impact of things that no longer exist. The series invites contemplation on the emptiness left by time, the lingering traces of memory, and their intangible yet profound weight.

Clear stone symbolises the accumulation of time. By carving these naturally formed stones into new shapes that represent emptiness, their meaning is paradoxically reinterpreted. Clear rings emphasise the interplay between presence and absence, inviting deeper contemplation of the intangible traces left by the passage of time.
